Dec 18th Performance

Stop in on December 18th to hear the Sterling Strings while you do a little Christmas Shopping. They are a group of 5 to 12 year old children that will be performing Christmas Music starting at 6:30pm. I am looking forward to hearing them play myself after one of them gave a sample of their music to some of our staff last week. Thanks Christina for bringing them out - I am looking forward to seeing them perform!

On a related note, if you haven't finished your shopping, we have just got in a new shipment of travel mugs. Coffees are still being roasted- we can take "Roast to Order" coffee orders through the end of the week. Our holiday menus are available for cookie trays, pastries, and our fabulous Buche de Noel!

I hope to see you soon, as I will be up here more for the rest of the year.

And thanks for supporting local businesses like us this Holiday Season!!

Winter Wonderland?!

Good Morning!
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
It looks like we made a good choice on brewing Winter Wonderland today.. For those still sleeping due to all the turkey- It is 7:00am and the cars in the parking lot have been covered in snow in the past fifteen minutes. Looking forward to seeing everyone today after the day off. So for those of you that got up even earlier than me to go shopping today, please stop in after you are done (I could use some new clothes.. What? Your barista is not at the top of your list?). Either way I'll be glad to make your latte this morning.
See you soon!

A Quick Fall Update

Here we are at the end of October, and things are in full swing here at both Peaberry's locations. Pumpkin Spice, and Pumpkin Pie Latte's are available through November. We are taking orders for Pumpkin Rolls and, gulp.. Christmas Cookies already at the Canfield location. We've been testing some flavor combinations for the upcoming winter season - and I think we have a few winners. Let me know if you would like to try a preview drink next time you see me at either location.

See you soon

Three Words:

Triple Chocolate Biscotti!
Its back! I just had a piece, and it is just the way I like it. Soft enough to eat by itself, but hard enough to dunk.

Hi all!
So I've been trying to step out from behind the Espresso Machine (insert your own Chris-is-short joke here) and get caught up with the times. So I started a facebook for Peaberry's. I wanted to say thanks to all the Peaberry's fans that have found us already. I'm looking forward to getting in touch with some of our "fans" that have moved out of the area. Talk to you soon.

I hope everyone had a great fourth! We went to the Fairgrounds for the fireworks show and the activities. Here is a picture of Tyler attempting a game..

He didn't quite make it the all the way to the end, although he did get pulled all the way back- which, for him, was just as much fun.

It was nice to see those of you I bumped into running from place to place this weekend. I'll see you soon at Peaberry's!

Did you miss me?

So last week was the first vacation I've taken in a while. I went with some good friends to South Carolina to visit the Beach & tour Charleston. We had a great time- waking up every morning sipping Dark Roast and watching the ocean - can't beat it. Anyway, if you have known me for a while, you know I was trying to find every local coffeehouse I could while I was gone. Unfortunately for the South Carolinians, I couldn't find many. And those that I did find, well, that's another story..
I'm happy to be back and am looking forward to seeing everyone this week. I want to hear what has been going on here. I will be happy to tell you about my vaca & I need someone to fund a Peaberry's on the beach (doesn't that sound good?).
See you soon,
Chris

Great News about Loren.

For those of you that have been coming to our store for a while know Loren, Uncle Peaberry's, has been on the waiting list for a kidney. Well- I am very happy to say he got the call yesterday afternoon and had the transplant last night. The surgery went well and he will be back soon. I want to say a big thank you for all the support for Loren. We ask that you keep him in your prayers as he recovers from the surgery.

See you soon,

Streetscape

Got up early Saturday morning to go downtown for Streetscape, with large latte in hand. I heard there were over 300 people there ready to plant flowers, mulch and generally clean up the downtown area and Wick Park. So as you go by the bus station downtown, take notice of the flowers in the median (and remember that I am better at making coffee than planting flowers!). It was really great to see so many people involved with beautifying the city. I'll try to post the info here for next time-but they are happy to have people show up even if they don't register ahead of time. You can visit youngstowncityscape.com for more. I have already told some of the committee that we would be happy to donate coffee for the next streetscape. Hope to see you there.

Today is my favorite scone-Cherry Cream Cheese. In case you didn't know-we make our Cherry Cream Cheese Scones from scratch right here. So if you haven't had a good scone in a while..

See you soon,

Chris

I'll be leaving soon to head up to the store. I get to hang out in the Bakery this morning, before moving to the espresso bar. I'll be happy to box up your pastries & take your lunch orders, but please be patient with me- I'm not used to it. We'll see if I can keep up with the girls that are there every day.
I do want to give a big thank you to the Girard High School NHS for the carload of goods that they brought in for the Marines. So far we have sent well over 200# of supplies! They greatly appreciate your support.

Collection for Marines

Hello Everyone!
As you may know, we have been taking collections that will be shipped to the Marines currently in Afghanistan. We sent out our first shipment the other day, of 90 pounds, and we have about 100 more we will be sending out shortly. Thank you so much for your response. People have been dropping off all kinds of non-perishable goods and necessities for the troops. We are also taking monetary donations to help with the high cost of shipping these items so far.
We are also offering a free coffee for anyone who donates everyday until May 10th, and every Monday after that. We are going to continue to collect for as long as we can. Thanks again for your support!
See you soon,
Chris

Early Mornings Now Seem Earlier!

I hope everyone has been doing well. I have to admit that this past weekend is my least favorite of the whole year. Losing that hour seems to really mess up my schedule. I had to pull an extra shot for my morning latte. So as we wait for the sun to come up, we are trying some new muffins today- White Chocolate Raspberry, Banana Chocolate Chip & Apple Oats & Bran. So stop in to check them out and get some coffee to get you through the day. See you soon!

History of Coffee - Part 2

How was this first coffee?
Coffee was actually first used as a solid, food-like substance! Only later was it used as a beverage. The Arabian nomads would mix the coffee beans together with other meats, fats, and beans to form a hard, oval shaped cake. The nomads would take these cakes with them on long journeys. It is thought that the caffeine in the coffee was used to keep the nomads awake-sort-of an ancient Arabian No-Doz!
The Arabs were very superstitious about the plant. They thought that if they showed it to anyone, the seed would not germinate. The Arabs had a monopoly on coffee for several generations, prohibiting the export of the green beans, or seeds. They kept the plant a secret from the rest of the world because they believed the plant had great powers.
The Arab’s coffee monopoly was finally broken in the 17th century when an Indian pilgrim names Smygloud Badu Budam smuggled seven seeds into India. The trees grew like mad there, and the monopoly was finally broken.
The First coffee blend was created by the Dutch
In 1696, a governor of the Dutch East India Company sent the first Arabian coffee seedling to the Dutch colony of Java. The Dutch became the first Europeans to grow coffee, and coffee was on its way to becoming a world-wide product. The Java coffees of that day were excellent and considered the world’s best coffees, second only to the Arabian Mochas.
The Dutch were very enterprising and managed to find a new market by creating a new concept in coffee- the coffee blend. They took the two most popular coffees and mixed them together to male “Mocha Java,” the world’s oldest coffee blend. Have you heard of it?

New Breakfast Item..

We have launched our newest breakfast item.

Our new made from scratch Savory Scone- served warm with ham and our new hint of spice Cheddar sauce covering it all. (I like mine with egg) Look for it the next time you stop in, it is another Peaberry's original & definetly worth a try.

In other Peaberry's News, our YSU location is in full swing- keeping the students & professors warm with lattes, mochas, (& the occasional Frozen Hot Chocolate-for those staying inside). It's nice to be back after a long, yet busy, holiday break.
